About Us

This site is owned and run jointly by two United fans, Tim Ashmore and Paul Nagel. We share a passion for the club and it's history, as well as desire to provide reliable and accurate information for fellow fans.

Before co-operating on this site we had both contributed information on United kits to the excellent Historical Football Kits. Indeed Dave Moor, who runs that site, was instrumental in bringing the two of us together and his site remains an inspiration to us both.

We had been collating information on the colours worn by United, and after exchanging emails and telephone calls the idea for this site was conceived. Tim is certainly the more creative of the two, creating all of the original illustrations of the kits and fine tuning the overall look, while Paul is responsible for the basic design and writing the code for the site.

In the final stages of preparing the web site we discovered Leslie Millman's collection of United memorabilia. Leslie's photographs have helped identify several 'new' kits, and he has kindly allowed us to use them on this site.

I was born in Ashton-Under-Lyne and have lived in Greater Manchester for most of my life since. I began researching the history of United's kits when I moved to Lincoln and found myself with lots of spare time on my hands. I am lucky not to have too many bad memories of the club, except for the crushing disappointment of the last week of the 1994/95 season (closely followed by the sale of Andrei Kanchelskis - my favourite player at the time), I regret having tickets to the home game against Ipswich the same season but not being able to attend. The tractor boys were demolished 9-0!

As a teenager, I would skip school to watch the players training at the Cliff and collect autographs from them, something today's young supporters are sadly unable to do. I was at the training ground during the recording of the video for United's 1995 FA Cup final song (the awful "rap" one), and could just about be seen looking very sheepish amongst the crowd! Another trip to Lower Broughton Road ended in a dispute with Roy Keane over the ownership of a biro (it was mine, Roy!).

Although born in Teesside I am a life long United fan and first went to Old Trafford for the 'derby' game in March 1968. I traveled to as many games as I could afford and will always remember seeing them win for the first time (at Huddersfield in January 1970) and Georgie's goal against Sheffield United on my 15th birthday in 1971! There may have been few trophies through the seventies and eighties, but I still have some great memories: life in the Second Division in 1974/75, the 1977 Cup Final, beating Barcelona in 1984, and the winning start to 1985/86. Of course the last fifteen years or so have been very special: being in Rotterdam and seeing Sparky's second goal, Keane at Juve and those ten days in May 1999, trips to Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Munich and Turin.

My research into United's kits is part of a larger project into United's history, which has been ongoing for twenty years or so. My latest challenge is compiling as comprehensive a list of Reserve team results and players as possible. If anyone can help with this please get in touch.
