The Season in brief

After a poor start, United found their form and climbed steadily towards the top of the table but were unable to keep pace with runaway leaders Manchester City and had to be content with the runners-up spot. United were again beaten in the League Cup semi-finals by neighbours City, and fell in the FA Cup quarter final at Leicester. That defeat ended a club record run of twenty-nine away games unbeaten. They remained unbeaten away from home in the League, only the fourth side to do so.

United started their Champions' League campaign strongly but faded and failed to qualify from the group stage, dropping into the Europa League. Victories over Real Sociedad, AC Milan, Granad and AS Roma propelled them into the Final against Villarreal. Despite dominating the game, United lost 11-10 on penalties.

Bruno Fernandes was again outstanding and ended the season as the club's leading scorer with twenty-eight goals and was voted the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for a second successive season.

The 9-0 victory over Southampton in February equalled United's own Premier League scoring record.

United unveiled three new kits during the summer; the home kit was released on August 4th, with the change kit unveiled on August 15th. Both were worn in the extension of 2019/20 season because of the COVID19 pandemic in the Europa League. The third kit was launched on September 8th. The replica version of the third kit included striped shorts and socks.
