The current Argentinian League leaders, Boca Juniors, provided the opposition for United's final warm up game ahead of the 2002/03 season. The club donated all proceeds from the game to UNICEF.

Despite it's friendly status both teams played with a competitive attitude that on occasion threatened to spill over to an outright battle. Before the half hour mark Rio Ferdinand, making his home début following his £30m. transfer from Leeds United, fell awkwardly after a Carlos Tévez tackle, and couldn't continue. By then Ruud van Nistelrooy had given United the lead, which he doubled shortly before half time.

The introduction of Paul Scholes in the second seemed to raise the temperature of the game considerably. After a couple of typical Scholes challenges, Tévez decided to seek retribution and elbowed Scholes in the face. Unfortunately for the eighteen year old Argentinian it was in full view of the referee who didn't hesitate showing him a red card.

Daniel's research has confirmed the absence of the player's names on the shirts for this game.
