On August 22nd 2011 United became the first club in Britain to announce a sponsorship deal for their training kit. Logistics company DHL agreed a four year deal that covered all United's games bar those in the Champions League at a cost of £40m. The sponsored training kit was worn for the first time before the Premier League game against Tottenham.

Season in brief and kit notes

Nike produced new home and change kits for United for the 2011/12 season, to general accliam. The previous season's change kit was adopted as the third kit, although saw little use.

The change kit was initially launched with black socks with a blue band at the top, and was worn on the club's pre season tour in the USA. However blue socks with a black top were worn in United's competitive games.

Continuing the trend started the year before, the shirts had the word "Relentless" embroidered on the inside of the shirt under the club badge.

A summary of United's quest for a twentieth title and further Cup glory will appear in May 2012.
